Z.E.R.O. — Zero Event Response Organization is an original science-fiction, paranormal mystery, and horror novel series created and written by Ginger Yarbrough.
Built around mystery, investigation, unexplained phenomena, strange creatures, dangerous anomalies, and events that refuse to fit comfortably within the rules of the ordinary world, Z.E.R.O. follows the people tasked with confronting the things most people never realize exist.
At the center of the series is the Zero Event Response Organization itself—an independent organization dedicated to investigating unusual events that cannot be adequately explained through conventional means. Z.E.R.O. operates outside the familiar structure of traditional law enforcement and government agencies, bringing together specialized personnel, advanced technology, research capabilities, and field operations to investigate incidents that others are either unable or unprepared to handle.
Some cases begin with something relatively small: an unexplained report, an unusual death, a strange sighting, an impossible piece of evidence, or a pattern that simply does not make sense. Others involve creatures, unknown technologies, unexplained phenomena, or events capable of placing entire communities at risk. Whatever the cause, Z.E.R.O. exists for the cases where ordinary explanations have run out.
And sometimes, finding the explanation is only the beginning.
The Story
The Z.E.R.O. novel series centers on Ginger Mercer, a former FBI agent whose career brings her face-to-face with an investigation that refuses to obey the rules she has spent years relying upon. Evidence points toward something that should not exist, and the questions surrounding that case eventually lead her toward an organization she previously knew nothing about.
That organization is Z.E.R.O.
Ginger enters this world with the instincts of an investigator. She wants evidence. She wants answers. Most importantly, she wants things to make sense. Unfortunately, the cases waiting for her at Z.E.R.O. are often defined by the fact that they don’t.
Alongside her is B.I.T.S. — Binary Intelligence & Tactical Systems, an advanced robotic partner originally developed within Z.E.R.O. What begins as experimental technology becomes an increasingly important part of Ginger’s work in the field. B.I.T.S. brings capabilities no human agent can match, while Ginger brings the judgment, intuition, persistence, and very human tendency to keep digging when something doesn’t add up.
Together, Ginger and B.I.T.S. become a central partnership within the series as investigations take them into increasingly unusual territory.
But Z.E.R.O. is larger than any two characters.
The organization has its own personnel, laboratories, technology, procedures, secrets, history, and unanswered questions. Its agents investigate a growing collection of cases involving creatures, anomalies, unexplained technologies, strange locations, mysterious events, and threats whose origins may not always be immediately understood.
As the novels unfold, readers will encounter different investigations, new characters, unexpected discoveries, and mysteries that extend beyond any single case.
Some mysteries will be solved.
Others may create entirely new ones.
A World Built Around the Unknown
The Z.E.R.O. universe is being developed as more than a series of unrelated monster encounters. Creatures and anomalies have their own behaviors, limitations, environments, motives, histories, and consequences. Cases have evidence. Characters have lives beyond an investigation.
